Kedar e-mailed me the other day pointing out that he noticed I use two spaces after periods, and why? (In his defense, he acknowledged this was a very nit-picky e-mail and it did not seem as though our friendship was balancing on my response to said e-mail). He also sent me this Slate article that [...]

Road signs in Poland
(PS…I saved the best for last in this post so scroll down) Ever since the first time I went to Warsaw (last March), I’ve been enamored by their road signs. They’re so subtly embellished that it’s hard to take your eyes off them (possibly making it difficult for drivers). This sign I assume says that [...]

Cute = Effective bus stop ads
My friend sent me this picture that he took at a bus stop in Brooklyn: So I’m usually pretty cheap these days when it comes to important things like charity. I hmm and haw for ages about how much I can afford, and how much it’s worth to me, and all of those [...]

A Citizen of Nothing (or Nowhere)
I recently received this sad letter from Elections Canada – both because I can’t vote in Canada anymore, and because it means I could have voted in the last, incredibly important Canadian elections even though I thought I couldn’t. Anyway, I am officially unable to vote anywhere (I am still a Canadian citizen of course…) [...]

Eating sunflower seeds in Poland
You can buy these gigantic sunflower heads in street markets and you literally pick out an individual black sunflower seed, break it open with your teeth, and eat a fresh inside-of-the-sunflower-seed. It does seem like a lot of work that could be done by a machine instead, but it’s fun

Wind and NYC Metro – Pretty pictures
Rebecca sent me these two data visualizations. This one is just mesmerizing. It shows you current wind patterns across the US, but even if it was patterns of little men in shriner cars during local parades, it would still be just as beautiful. This other one is a lot of pretty information, often broken down [...]

Singer Bar in Krakow
In the Jewish quarters of Krakow I found this bar called “Singer” where each table is an old fashioned sewing machine. A few years ago when one of my nephews was under a year old, I was visiting India and my aunt told me that she wanted me to sew some really simple [...]

100 pages of Asian-Americans in the US by religion
Roughly three-quarters of both Asian-American Buddhists (76%) and Asian-American Hindus (73%) celebrate Christmas. But only 60% of the unaffiliated Asian-Americans! A Pew study analyzes the difference between Asian-Americans and other Americans broken down by religions (both foreign born and US born). I went through the 100 pages and pulled out a lot of interesting facts, [...]

Couple of updates…
1. You may soon notice Google Ads in the sidebar. I’m just using it so I can train people at work. I’ll take it down later (unless I become rich off it). 2. I’m going to Poland for a couple of weeks starting today! Mostly work but with some fun trips too. Hopefully I’ll have [...]
